This recognition comes at an excellent moment in my professional life, and here at La Val I\u2019ve found a great team,\u201d says Weiss. He also expresses his gratitude to I\u00f1aki Sanz and V\u00edctor Urrutia for the trust placed in him: \u201cThey\u2019ve given me their confidence and the freedom to do my job, and that means a lot to me.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"998\" data-end=\"1026\"><strong data-start=\"998\" data-end=\"1026\">From Kiel to R\u00edas Baixas<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"1028\" data-end=\"1408\">Trained as an agronomist in Kiel, Weiss began his journey in agriculture with hands-on training in farming. \u201cSince I was a child I wanted to be an agronomist like my grandfather. He taught me the trade with his own hands,\u201d he recalls. After gaining experience on farms and nurseries, he moved to Vigo at the age of 29 and built a versatile career marked by his passion for plants.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1410\" data-end=\"1789\">He has worked in horticultural production, botanic garden management, arboriculture, and viticulture, both in Germany and Spain. A specialist in ornamental species and exotic plants\u2014he successfully introduced the giant water lily <em data-start=\"1640\" data-end=\"1659\">Victoria cruziana<\/em> to Vigo in 2013\u2014Weiss has also been a permanent member of the tasting committee at the R\u00edas Baixas Regulatory Council since 2001.<\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"1791\" data-end=\"1831\"><strong data-start=\"1791\" data-end=\"1831\">Biodiversity as a Working Philosophy<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"1833\" data-end=\"2172\">At La Val, Weiss champions a philosophy grounded in biodiversity, ecosystem balance, and meticulous vineyard care. Among the standout practices he leads are the planting of floral mixes to attract pollinators like bees, the installation of insect hotels, and the use of sheep to manage ground cover, in collaboration with a local shepherd.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2176\" data-end=\"2486\">\u201cThey\u2019re natural allies against pests,\u201d he explains, emphasising the importance of a balanced ecosystem as the foundation for healthier and more resilient vineyards.
